day 1 - walled
It was sort of ironic, considering how that clashed with his apparent specialty in the arcane. He could put up physical walls no problem, protect himself and others, redirect blows that could potentially hurt them or just outright stop them with a well-crafted spells. Though really, outside of a few exceptions, Adrian didn't really want to learn much else in terms of magic. He wasn't a fighter. He wasn't Molly, Clyde, Betsy, or even...
He shakes his head, wiping down the counter in front of him. No. He wasn't like Jin at all. That was one wall he wasn't sure he'd ever scale. Or at least he thought he had scaled it, but it was even higher than he originally anticipated. Or, more accurately, he didn't realize it was there the whole time. He thought that he knew, but maybe some wall were better left unscaled and left alone.
It wasn't like he would get answers anytime soon. And beyond that, he wasn't sure if he could trust Jin ever again. Considering how much he was willing to throw away on a mere hunch ...
Or at least that was what he was trying to keep telling himself as he settled in to open the bar for the night. Seems as if he has his own walls to possibly keep up.
day 2 - breakable
He crouches, eyes narrowing as he watches the people below, bracing himself against the ledge with one hand while the other skimmed across the metalwork surrounding the softly glowing black stone around his neck. No sudden increase in light and heat from the pendant meant that the coat was clear for now, which was good... except for the fact that he had gotten good intel that his mark was supposed to be in this area, and they hadn't been wrong before. His hand drops to his side, fingers gripping the handle of one of his knives in preparation. Honestly, he just wants to get this job done and over with - go home and sleep before picking up another shift at the bar. Maybe if he's lucky enough after all of this, go home with someone. It would be good stress relief, at least. Jin lets out a soft hum, ready to shift again and change vantage points -
The stone starts to burn, even through the layers of his clothes, causing him to growl and curse under his breath with how sudden it was. He quickly stands, turning to face whoever had tripped his detector pendant and tried to sneak up on him, a wild grin on his face despite the probable danger. "Fucking finally...."
THe figure shoots forward with supernatural speed, hissing as JIn fings a knife at it, cutting into the palm. Immediately, they try to move away to avoid further damage, the wound smoking slightly.
"Oh no you fucking don't-" Jin follows, using his unarmed hand to try and grab at his attacker, yanking them back toward him. He squints as they struggle to try and stay on the roof during their little scuffle. The lighting wasn't the best, and their face was obscured by a hood. But fuck that, it is the mark, or an interloper?
Only one way to find out.
Their confrontation would end one way or another. Jin eventually pins the vampire, slamming his fist into the wounded hand of his target, causing it to how. There's no pity or sympathy in his gaze, only a sheer determination to unmask whoever they were. Now or never.
He yanks the hood down with his other hand, any sort of curse or reply dying on his lips as he stares at his apparent assailant. His blood ran cold, the stone laying against his chest burning like a brand. Everything feels like it's stopped as he staggers back, as if struck. After all this time, and all the walls he's created around himself, everything's shattered as of this moment.
"No... Minji?"
day 3 - injured
Keywords being "usually" and "someone else". While he had a ... decent idea of his own capabilities and limits and limits, sometimes things took a turn that even he couldn't expect.
Which was probably the nicest way to say that things weren't going well right now. Chasing after a suspect, and especially a supernatural one, was never an easy task when they were actively avoiding arrest. And especially if they were a goddamn shapeshifter on top of it. Bastard even had the audacity to chanced into Seyoung's form in order to throw him off the trail.
Scents don't lie, though.
THe only problem was that the suspect had a knife on him when Daniel had cornered him earlier, and despite what he's become, while he can heal from wounds fairly quickly: 1. it still fucking hurt, and 2. whatever the blade was made of, it was screwing with his healing factor.
He feels the itch crawling under his skin to shift, and while fully shifting would kick whatever was keeping him from fully healing, but at the same time, shifting would just bring about a whole new potential slew of problems.
day 4 - deja vu (ver. 1)
Yeah, it's a vague statement considering the current situation she was in, but the nagging sense in the back of her head was admittedly also vague. She shakes her head, shoving everything out of the way except to get there.
Running to try and save someone was far from something she's done in the past, but that's not what was triggering this ... at least she thinks so. Madsen stretches out her hand, straining to reach her destination. She summons a swath of construct swords to try and move ahead of her, the brief burst of heat a welcome feeling before shooting them off with a yell.
It's then that the environment shifts in front of her before her very eyes, a very familiar battlefield manifesting. Madsen slows her pace ever so slightly, eyes widening. "No. Impossible." She was still on-guard, keeping some of her constructs close as she continued forward. Not now, why a bleeding effect now of all times?! Her breaths quicken, flexing her fingers in an effort to try and get rid of some of this nervous energy that was manifesting in the wake of it all.
"KAIN!"
That scream was unmistakable with the pure venom in it, combined with pain and anguish. It was her own, after all. She knew exactly what was coming next.
Madsen steps forward again, knowing that staying here was going to do nothing but waste precious time. She had pieced together the events of that fateful day after she had been forced off the battlefield from a combination of shaking down the others and this very memory. Nithal had taken it upon himself to track down her brother's murderer, taking him out himself without any prodding from anyone else. He had no direct connection with the situation outside of his arrangement with Madsen, but he still felt compelled to do something despite that.
Amadi had surmised that it might've had something to do with his own brotherly feelings; it was a situation that while highly unlikely to actually happen considering what both of the brothers were, was still one of Nithal's worst nightmares come true.
Madsen charges forward, past the fight - she knew what would happen, this wasn't her battle. He did that to try and break the cycle of revenge, a cycle that she would've contributed to if she were the one to ultimately kill Kain.
The memory shatters - another trying to take its place - but a burst of flames erupts from Madsen's body, taking the shape of wings as she picks up the pace.
This feeling of deja vu, the memories of past battles literally flashing before her eyes -
She was taking the pain, channeling it into something more substantial. Nithal and her brother had done more than enough to save her. They saw something greater in her, and she wasn't going to let them down. That was part of the reason why she had joined up with Amadi after the war was over, after all.
With a yell, everything turns back to the situation at hand. The illusions shatter like broken glass, revealing the others - her squad, the people she swore to fight alongside. Her wings spread, another barrage of fire swords surrounding her, and she crashes right into the middle of it all, righting herself after the impact and looking no worse for the wear despite causing an explosion. She's later admit that it hurt like a bitch, but adrenaline was a hell of a drug.
"Come on!"
day 5 - deja vu (ver. 2)
Huh.
This ... when did this happen before? It feels so familiar.
She swallows, feeling her throat tighten as she clenches her jaw - is she crying?
Why?
She had no regrets in her life, despite some of what has happened to her over the years. The war and its aftermath, inheriting a legacy bigger than her...
Nithal's legacy.
Madsen blinks as if snapping out of a daze, her body colliding into something solid, her mind pulled out of the warm fog that it was in once she realized where she was - and who was with her.
"What the-!?"
"Thank me later, doll. Now that you're not wallowing around half-dead, don't you have something to do?"
Madsen's expression hardens into something that the Demon was more used to seeing on her face before she straightens, ignoring the rapidly healing wound in her side. Another close call, but this time it wouldn't be marked on her skin forever. "Don't fucking tell me how to do my job, you overgrown sea snake."
Levi rolls his eyes before letting out a hum. "I'm not the one who got whammied by these fuckers but go off, I guess."
day 6 - bloodied
Oh well.
To some, he looked like a blood-soaked demon. To others, a bloody avenging angel - the giant golden wings and flames surrounding him didn't exactly detract from that mental image. Either of them. It was more a matter of perspective than anything.
"Quit screwing around and finish sweeping the area! We don't have time for your posturing, they'll have reinforcements here in ten."
And right on time, the killjoy. Or, his little brother, for those playing the home game. Nithal sighs, waving a dismissive hand before he continues onward. It's not like he's ever lost focus of the mission, but Amadi always did like making sure that they play by the book... for better and for worse.
What a killjoy.
